PEXPO Trial Run

As part of TY everyone had to come up with a PEXPO project based around either sports, nutrition, games development, health promotion,  and psychology . Ms McKinley helped us in Biology with our projects. I choose to research energy bars.

Energy Bars

From the seven categories I choose Nutrition. I am doing my PEXPO on energy bars. I am going to compare 3 different energy bars to our averages without eating any bar before exercise to see which one gives you the most energy. I am going to test out the bars on myself and my 9 year old brother. I am going to get myself and my brother Eoin to do a series of different activities

  • 30 Jumping Jack
  • 1 minute jogging
  • 15 Burpees
  • 30 high knees
  • 30 heels to bottom
  • 20 lunges

The first three times we will be doing the activities without eating any energy bar and we will time ourselves doing the 6 different actives as a whole. Then do the actives again whilst timing it on another day, just after 20 minutes of eating one of the energy bar. In order to make sure it is a fair test we did each trial in the morning before breakfast at the same time each day. We also will only eat 30g of each bar was the Roo’Bar is the smallest bar and in order to make it fair. We will then repeat  the activates on two other occasions with the other two bars. After we have tried out the three types of energy bars and have recorded the different times. I will compare the times of the different bars to see if we were able to do the activities any quicker with a certain bar.

Results

After looking at my times and comparing them to our averages without any bar, I realised that the bar that gave me the most energy was not the same bar that gave Eoin the most energy. This shows that different energy bars work differently on each individuals and no energy bar is better than another in terms of releasing the most energy as each individuals metabolism works differently.
